Almost 700 people thronged into the St Elli Shopping Centre at the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice annual Festival of Light Service of Dedication.  On arrival they were welcomed to the music of the Salvation Army Band which was followed by a reflective and moving introduction by the Rev Euryl Howells, Chaplain, Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The Rev David Jones then moved the proceedings along smoothly and reflectively as the Centre filled with music and singing.   Cor Meibion Llanelli lead the crowd in a rousing rendition of Calon Lan and there were outstanding performances from the Phil Harmonics Choir and the pupils of Ysgol y Felin who brought cheers and great applause from the congregation.

The bilingual reading was then given by Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader, Carmarthenshire County Council.

Festival of Light 2018, lights dimmed prior to switch onThe lights dimmed for the switching on of the lights by Mrs Linda Williams, former County Director of Hywel Dda UHB.   In her address she acknowledged the hard work of the Ty Bryngwyn Trustees and Fundraising Committee and the response and generosity of the public with over £6 million raised from the start of fundraising in 1986. She then gave an update on the latest refurbishments at Ty Bryngwyn. The Trustees and staff of the Unit have developed a comprehensive refurbishment plan and over the summer months there has been significant construction work.  The front entrance, day care area, the individual bedrooms and associated rooms have all been refurbished and equipped to a very high standard. The redesign has also created the space for an additional bedroom so there are now 7 inpatient rooms at Ty Bryngwyn.

Festival of Light 2018, lights after switch onAs she switched on the lights she asked everyone to reflect on those they had dearly loved and lost and to give thanks to all of the health and care staff and the work of the Trustees and Fundraising Committee.

The Service then came to an emotional climax as Cor Meibion Llanelli gave a passionate performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” supported by the Phil Harmonics as the Centre was  transformed from darkness into light.  The evening concluded with a blessing and prayer by the Rev David Jones.

Ty Bryngwyn Trustees and Committee wish to thank all concerned for their outstanding contribution to a very successful evening with especial thanks to Paul Adams and Keith Elms of PAI Group of Companies for donating and setting up the sound system.
